Scripture Reading. Philippians 3:1-16

The word FORGETTING appears in the Bible only one time! I woke up this morning with a sense of urgency. It was an urgency to tell you that BEFORE you enter into your promise, there is a vital thing that you must do. You must forget!

Our reading today is from the Apostle Paul. He tells us that we should have no confidence in our human doings. Then he says, if anybody could boast about what they have done, he could. Paul then gives a very brief synopsis of his life telling us his lineage and how he grew, along with his education and discipline in following the law to the letter.

The focus today, however, comes from the very familiar verses of 13 and 14. In context Paul is talking about forgetting his past achievements saying that they don’t mean anything. I want YOU to forget about your past failures. The failures of your past attempts!

Failure is a part of every human’s life. As long as we live we are prone to failure. It is not the act of failing that is the issue. The issue is what do you do AFTER you have failed. What do you do when that brilliant idea didn’t happen? FORGET!!

Now, Paul doesn’t leave it there. The text says from the English Standard Version, “forgetting what lies behind and STRAINING forward to what lies ahead, I PRESS ON...”

I urge you today to PRESS INTO YOUR PROMISE...

Today’s Activity

1) LIST THE THINGS THAT YOU’VE CONSIDERED FAILURES

2) AFTER WRITING THEM DONE, RIP THEM TO SHREDS

3) DISCARD THE PAPER OUTDOORS (do not put it in your indoor trash)

Father I thank you for this day. I thank you for telling me that it is not only okay to forget, but that it is necessary in order for me to press into my promise. I ask you to give me strength as I go throughout this day. It is in the name of Jesus that I pray, AMEN.
